About CPCD

Now is the time to educate the child…   What a child learns and experiences from the day they are born until the day they enter kindergarten directly impacts their success in school and in life. These experiences set the stage as development occurs rapidly and dynamically during the early years of life. Now is the time to provide and support comprehensive early care and education with family support for our community’s youngest children.

Community Partnership for Child Development is proud to be providing high quality, comprehensive early childhood education and family development programs for young children and their families in El Paso County.

Founded in 1987, CPCD was spun-off from Catholic Charities specifically to administer the Head Start program, which had been under the umbrella of Catholic Charities since 1978.  When CPCD was formed, the agency was funded to serve nearly 300 four-year-old children in two programs. Nearly 20 years later, CPCD now reaches nearly six times that number — more than 1,600 children and their families — in three core programs. The Head Start and Colorado Preschool and Kindergarten Programs serve preschool-aged children, and the Early Head Start program serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers.

CPCD’s programs are based on the Head Start model and are child and family focused. Children receive individualized services that support each child in developing the skills needed to be successful in school and life, including early childhood education; medical, dental, and mental health; nutrition; and transportation. Parents are supported in their role as their child’s first and best teacher, and CPCD works closely with parents to assist them in developing and utilizing individual and family strengths in order to successfully meet personal and family goals. Services are appropriate to each child and family’s developmental, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage and experience. CPCD is proud of our 20-year history, together with our community partners, of helping children to start school ready to learn and encouraging their parents to be active, life-long participants in their children’s education.

A Winning Combination

A Winning Combination

Since Robyn began attending Head Start combined with child care at the Urban League Child Development Center in August, a lot has happened. She’s learning basic skills and interacting and playing with other children. CPCD’s comprehensive child and family services allowed Robyn, age four, to receive a free medical and dental assessment—an activity not typically performed in child care centers. More
