The Colorado Preschool Program (CPP) is offered for three- and four-year-old children and their families who can benefit from a comprehensive early childhood development and family program. Children enrolled in CPP receive many of the same services that are provided for Head Start families, including snacks and health screenings and treatment. Numerous family services are also available, such as parent education programs, the opportunity to participate on CPCD advisory councils, information and referral services, and extensive parent involvement.
Daniel's Story
Daniel's family is dealing with his father's second deployment to the war in Iraq. He is not expected to return for at least 12 months with extensions in service likely. The family did not receive on-base housing and were stretched to meet their basic needs during the father's absence. Barbara, Daniel's mother, had his 2 other children enrolled in their neighborhood elementary school, yet Daniel was at home and quite withdrawn. His eyes had lost their sparkle.
Barbara heard about CPCD and called for more information. Daniel qualified for the Colorado Preschool Program in her district and school. As he entered the classroom on his first day, the staff went to work! Children gathered around their new friend to show him how the classroom worked. Soon, Daniel was smiling and ultimately laughing again.
"Daniel is learning! He loves going to preschool and this program is a huge benefit for our family," Barbara explained. "We read together, we do home activities with Daniel's older siblings and have found some amazing support. "
Daniel and his family join hundreds of children and families in the CPP Program in El Paso County. Their successful transition to kindergarten is highly praised by local elementary educators. Now is the time for CPP!
