Things are busy at Community Partnership for Child Development this time of year! We would like to thank all of our donors, volunteers and partner agencies for making the season magical for CPCD children and their families. Here’s what’s going on at 2330 Robinson St.:
Loads of Coats!
For the second consecutive year, CPCD's close friend Mr. Gayle Bashears held a coat drive for CPCD children at his annual holiday soiree, which took place on December 6 this year. Attendees responded to the call for coats with gusto, producing approximately 500 coats - almost double what was brought in last year.
CPCD children will be able to choose from the assortment on Saturday, Dec. 17 at CPCD’s Book and Coat Giveaway event, where each enrolled child will receive one book, coat and a holiday treat!
Adopt-A-Family
Adopt-A-Family
is an annual holiday program where corporations, schools, community groups and individuals help Head Start families in need. This year, nearly 200 CPCD families were adopted! Loads of gifts, gift cards and household necessities were delivered on Donor Drop-off Day in early December. Volunteer individuals and groups, including the Harrison School District Air Force ROTC, showed up to help unload cars and stow the items. It was a day of inspiration, generosity and cheer.
Fantasy Flight
On Saturday, Dec. 10, holiday cheer soared as 50 CPCD children and their family members took to the skies for the fifth annual Fantasy Flight. For five years, SkyWest Airlines has partnered with the Junior League of Colorado Springs (JLCS) to put on this special event.
The children boarded a SkyWest Airlines Canadair Regional Jet 700 (CRJ700) from the Colorado Springs Airport and soared for 30 minutes before landing at the “North Pole”. There, the passengers were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The night also included a Chik-Fil-A dinner for the kids and their families as well as appearances from Sox the Fox, local Olympians, pictures with Santa, a petting zoo and much more!
