CPCD President Selected to Task Force

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Oct. 7, 2009 – The state of Colorado is looking to reduce poverty by 50 percent over the next 10 years, and Community Partnership for Child Development’s CEO, Noreen Landis-Tyson, has been selected as a member of the Economic Opportunity and Poverty Reduction Task Force to help accomplish this goal.

The task force is a legislative body that was established after House Bill 1604 was passed in the spring. The bill called for a group to analyze how other states are successfully reducing poverty. The results will then be used by the team to construct a strategic plan dedicated to improving the poverty rate in Colorado.

Landis-Tyson will contribute to the task force by seeking ways to reduce the poverty rate through early childhood development initiatives.

“Major early childhood development programs like Head Start and Early Head Start must be properly run throughout the state.” Landis-Tyson said. “Studies have proven that these programs can help a community increase earnings and employment."

Each member of the task force is assigned to sub-committees based on his or her background. Landis-Tyson will serve on the Poverty and Education Committee with 12 other members living throughout Colorado. Members serving on each committee represent local government, businesses, and labor and education organizations.
