CPCD Receives $45,000 Grant from

the Caring for Colorado Foundation

Colorado Springs, Colo.  – March 19, 2010 – Community Partnership for Child Development will receive a $45,000 grant from the Caring for Colorado Foundation to support its Behavioral Health Program.

The Behavioral Health Program provides services to children with emotional and behavioral problems. These services include both prevention and intervention.

“We believe this grant couldn’t have come at a better time,” CPCD Chief Executive Officer Noreen Landis-Tyson said. “The amount of children coming to us with behavioral health issues is increasing and so is the severity of these problems.”

At the beginning of the 2009/2010 school year, the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment showed 23 percent of the children in CPCD programs have behavioral health challenges, up from 15 percent two years ago. If these problems are left unaddressed, they put children at high risk for increased psychological problems, the development of some medical conditions, and school and career failure.

In January, CPCD opened the first therapeutic preschool in El Paso County to serve children with the most challenging behaviors.

Established in 1999, the Caring for Colorado Foundation is one of the state’s most respected health grant makers. CFC has improved the lives of Coloradans by awarding more than $50 million to nonprofit and government agencies, building health care capacity, strengthening the existing health care system and linking people to care. CFC’s focus is on health care access for the uninsured and underserved statewide. Foundation initiatives include programs in oral health and public health.
