University of Phoenix Nominated for National Head Start Corporate Award
The University of Phoenix was recognized for being an absolute model for corporate/community partnerships with their work in enhancing programs for the children and families enrolled at Community Partnership for Child Development. Their unsurpassed creativity encouraged children to learn more about the world around them and provided materials to their families.
The adventure and community spirit began in the fall of 2008:
Literacy Project (September 2008)
A team of University of Phoenix staff assembled materials for “Literacy Totes.” Head Start children filled their very own tote boxes with school supplies and books to have in their homes.
Earth Day Celebration (April 2009)
The University of Phoenix collected “green items” for families. Volunteers inspired children to protect our earth and distributed reusable grocery bags, long lasting light bulbs and information for parents. Local media covered the event and highlighted the partnership between early and higher education.
Wellness Fun (September 2009)
University of Phoenix staff created “Wellness Boxes” for a class of Head Start Children. After consulting with CPCD’s Health and Nutrition Department, jump ropes, balls and music were included in the boxes. Health snacks and nutrition information for parents were also distributed.

Beyond classroom fun and family education, the University of Phoenix continues their commitment to our community through financial support of CPCD events and shares their expertise with staff. Students in University of Phoenix counseling programs have completed their practicum working with Family Services and in the classroom. Their commitment to higher education for the adult learner is shared with parents and staff to encourage further education.
The University of Phoenix is a corporate partner committed to Head Start goals and ideas.
